Summative Evaluation
EVALUATION: This is the point where you want to find out the effectiveness of the instruction, meaning the strengths and weaknesses of the instruction, to decide whether to maintain or adopt it. You want to know whether the instruction is effective in solving the performance problem. This is also known as a Summative Evaluation.
What does the Evaluation consist of?
Evaluation Report: A report that answers the following questions:
- Was the instruction effective in solving our performance problem?
- Does learning transfer occur?
- Should the original instruction be maintained or should the newly created instruction be adopted?
- Was the Return on Investment (ROI) worth the training?
Data: Information needed to write the evaluation report. Pre-test and Post-test on the learner's performance and attitudes, instructor attitudes, and implementation requirements (feasible & cost reasonable). Data can be collected through criterion-referenced tests, attitude questionnaires, questionnaires, interviews, observations, and company records.
Another method of evaluation is the Kirkpatrick Evaluation Levels method.
